Created Out of Mind artists in residence Charles Robert Harrison, Susanna Howard and Charlie Murphy invite you to view selected artworks developed as part of their residency in The Hub at Wellcome Collection.

Leading a diverse range of research projects, they have initiated creative workshops, exhibitions and events in collaboration with people living with different kinds of dementia, scientists, curators,student groups, musicians, broadcasters, clinicians and carers.

Charles Robert Harrison’s projects include tests and experiments which aim to characterise aspects of controlled and expressive gestures in paint, sculptural responses to cognitive testing materials and a film project narrated by people living with dementia which explores the hidden landscapes and personal meanings set out in a test of reading. charlesrobertharrison.com.

Susanna Howard is the founder and artistic director of Living Words. A writer, actor and theatre maker, she has created Talking Life , a series of podcasts with people living with dementias and Wellcome’s archive team, plus collaborated with young artists who have created music and artworks from the words of people living with advanced dementias. livingwords.org.uk.

Charlie Murphy has been developing new glass sculptures, video works and participatory events in response to some of the behaviours and patterns of dementias at molecular level. She is also investigating some of the visual, textual & linguistic metaphors used to describe experiences of dementia. charliemurphy.co.uk.
