The Neva, a film by Created Out of Mind researcher Charles Harrison will be screened for the first time at Jupiter Woods as part of Testing Situations; a video and sound installation about dementia, narration and the landscapes of a test.
Are the voices of people living with dementias diminished by cognitive testing materials? This installation highlights the prevailing will to communicate whilst exploring the creative, historical and aesthetic qualities concealed in a test of reading.
Featuring 6 narrators who encounter a range of challenges with reading; from perceiving letters and words, to speaking aloud or understanding meaning, ‘the NEVA’ hopes to consider, discuss and extend the parameters by which a person is assessed.
Testing Situations is an ongoing research project working at the intersection of diagnostic assessment and artistic practice.
The exhibition runs from 11th January - 3rd February 2019.
Gallery Open - Thursdays / Fridays / Saturdays 12-6pm and by appointment
There will also be a private view on Thursday 10th January 19 at 6-9pm.
Jupiter Woods is a London-based, non-profit art organisation and platform for interdisciplinary research and practice.
